1. What VidVeil does
VidVeil is a browser extension that helps make YouTube easier to focus on. It can blur thumbnails and the video, hide distracting recommendations and Shorts, let you reveal one video at a time, set time reminders, and repeat a section you are learning.
It works around YouTube rather than replacing it. Titles, details, playback controls, captions, and links remain available.
The VidVeil product page has an optional overview video. When the player comes into view, the page loads the Odysee thumbnail and starts the video muted through the Akhirah player; Odysee may process the request under its own policies. This website player is separate from the VidVeil extension and does not send playback history to VidVeil.
2. What VidVeil looks at
To show its controls, VidVeil reads information already visible on supported pages. For example, it needs to recognize thumbnails, the video player, Search, Shorts, playback controls, the current video, and the timing needed for looping or time reminders.
If you choose person blur, VidVeil uses the current video only to place a blur over the area you select. Supported browsers may use their built-in face detector to follow that person as they move. Otherwise, Smart follow loads VidVeil’s bundled local face detector in a dedicated worker after you complete a selection; it receives only a downsized crop near the selected subject. Fixed area never loads the detector.
No video frames, crops, face data, model outputs, or selected coordinates are sent to VidVeil or saved in your time history. If detection is unavailable or fails, the selected area remains as Fixed area.
This happens in your browser. VidVeil uses the page information needed for a feature to work; it is not building a list of everything you watch.
3. What VidVeil saves in your browser
VidVeil saves the choices needed to remember the experience you set up.

When browser sync is available for a setting, it is provided by your browser. VidVeil does not have its own account or online history.
4. Time summaries, not a viewing history
VidVeil keeps simple time totals so it can show daily summaries, budgets, and session progress. These are timing totals, not a list of the videos you watched. They are kept for 90 days.
Time history does not include
- Video titles.
- Channel names.
- Search terms.
- Watched URLs.
- Cookies or credentials.
- Comments or messages.
VidVeil uses these totals to help you notice your time, not to create a detailed viewing history.
5. Diagnostics and Incognito
Page links are left out of diagnostics by default, so diagnostic information is less likely to identify the page you are viewing.
Incognito use is not counted in time summaries.
6. Looping on other sites
YouTube looping works without extra website access. If you choose to use looping on another supported site, VidVeil asks for permission for that site at that moment.
Optional HTTP/HTTPS access is requested after you choose site looping. It is not needed for the basic YouTube features.
7. No VidVeil account or tracking service
VidVeil does not need a sign-in or an online VidVeil account. It has no ads, analytics, payment system, cloud database, or tracking service.
Your browser handles any eligible setting sync. VidVeil does not use an extension-operated server to build a profile about you or sync your time history. The bundled Smart follow detector and runtime run locally and make no extension-owned network request.
9. Your choices: export or clear data
VidVeil lets you export your time summaries and clear them from the extension whenever you want.
Browser-synced settings, when applicable, are controlled through your browser’s own sync system; VidVeil does not provide a separate online history account.
