Nawafil Prayer Times Today: When Can You Pray Nafl Salah?

Nawafil are voluntary prayers that Muslims offer in addition to the five daily prayers. Knowing when to pray Ishraq, Duha (Chasht), Tahajjud, or Awwabin is important because certain times of the day are restricted for voluntary salah.

What Are the Times for Nafl Prayers?

  • Ishraq: Begins when the sun has risen sufficiently, usually around 15–20 minutes after sunrise.
  • Duha (Chasht): Can be prayed after the sunrise restriction ends until shortly before Zawal (solar noon).
  • Tahajjud: Night prayer is offered after Isha and before Fajr. The last third of the night is especially recommended.
  • Awwabin: Commonly refers to voluntary prayers after Maghrib and before Isha, although some scholars also use this name for Duha.

When Is Nafl Prayer Not Allowed?

Common restricted periods include after Fajr, during sunrise, around Zawal, and after Asr until sunset. The exact rulings, exceptions, and whether a period is forbidden or disliked (Makruh) differ between Islamic schools of thought.
